I wanted these people around me.

My name is Tim Gansczyk. I live in Langebaan, on the west coast of South Africa.
It took me a long time to say plainly what I need in order to live well, and none of it turned out to be complicated. I need to go until it costs something, rather than only to move. I need a direction, and it is allowed to change; what matters is that one exists, so the small things have somewhere to point. I need people who do it with me, partly because having told someone raises the odds I actually do it, and partly because going through something hard next to another person is its own reason. And I need a few people who are already where I am trying to get to, instead of only the ones standing nearest to me.
None of that is a discovery. What I did not have was one place where all of it was normal at the same time.
The selfish reason comes first, and I would rather say it than dress it up. I want these people around me. Not an audience and not a network. People who set something, do it, set the next thing, and who would notice if I stopped.
The second reason arrived after the first. If this works for me it works for anyone built the same way, and most of them are also doing it on their own.
On Monday I am running a Murph with a friend who is not a member. That is not an event and it is not a launch. It is how the next person gets in, and it is how everyone after them gets in as well.
Nobody has to believe any of this. But if you set something for yourself this year and let it go without ever telling anyone, you already know which part was missing.
